The Derby Conservative party are delighted to be welcoming hundreds of new members and supporters includeing two former Labour councillors. In a move that has underlined Labour’s continuing melt-down both nationally and in Derby former Labour members and councillors have decided to join and support the Conservatives at a very special and significant event held at Guru Ravidass Community Centre in Derby on Friday evening.
Along with may former Labour mebers, supporters and activists, Derby City Councillor, Amar Nath (Normanton Ward) has joined the Conservative party with Prem Chera (Sinfin Ward) also pledging his support .
The move increases the number of Conservative councillors representing wards in Derby North, South and Mid Derbyshire to 15 – pulling clear of the Lib Dems and closing in on Labour who continue to haemorrhage supporters, activists, members and councillors in Derby.
The events compound a growing crisis within the Derby Labour party and with crucial City local elections on May 1st this year it is clear that only the Conservative party have the momentum and ability to take Derby forward.
